EPISODE 7: MANBOOBS FOR RAPISTS
Warning: this episode discusses rape; please listen at your own discretion.

In this episode, we take a closer look at Jokowi’s recent amendment to existing child protection laws, which will include new laws, such as chemical castration, for punishing child rapists. We talk about what chemical castration is, and how effective the treatment is compared to other forms of punishment in terms of reducing recidivism (the rate of repeat offense). In our discussions, we analyze the limitations of this purely punitive approach, and how it does not fundamentally solve the issue of rape. In doing so, we explore the ways we could and should open up a discussion on consent and hold everyone in society accountable for the existence and prevalence of rape culture; this includes talking about different types of rape prevention tactics that we can use to start changing rape culture from within our own social circles.

This episode continues our conversation from the previous episode, #NyalaUntukYuyun: In Focus, which you can listen to here.

Thanks for listening!
