THIS EPISODE IS ABOUT AN ONGOING NEWS STORY — WE RECORDED THE EPISODE ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4TH.
Also, we are obviously not health professionals or medical experts. If you have any medical questions about COVID-19, please reach out to your nearest medical facility and/or professional.
In this episode, we’re reacting to the latest news that broke on Monday, March 2nd, when President Jokowi announced that there are 2 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia, specifically Jakarta. We break down the sequence of events that led to these confirmed cases. We reiterate some of the basic knowledge about COVID-19, such as its most common symptoms and who are the most vulnerable to the disease, and back it up with scientific data from the latest reports from the WHO, in order to dispel some common misconceptions and/or misinformation about COVID-19. We want to put the fatality rate of COVID-19 in greater context, which helps to show why it might not be as deadly as people think it is. We also want to address the panic buying that has occurred not only in Indonesia but all over the world, since it doesn’t address the real issue and only serves to jack up prices, deplete resources, and increase paranoia and fear.
We urge our listeners to be calm and rational and practice good safe personal hygiene, and also to be empathetic to health care professionals and those who are in greater need of protection and be responsible about yourself and your actions.
We hope those who have COVID-19, in Indonesia and everywhere else in the world, recover as best as they can, and in the meantime, please keep calm, wash your hands, and be responsible with your hygiene and resources in this current time.
Thanks for listening!
