EPISODE 6: #NYALAUNTUKYUYUN IN FOCUS
Warning: this episode discusses a graphic rape case; please listen at your own discretion.

In this episode, we discuss the recent tragic case of Yuyun, who was gang-raped by 14 men to death in Bengkulu, Indonesia. The lack of mainstream media coverage of her case led to not only a strong social media reaction from Indonesian netizens (such as the #NyalaUntukYuyun campaign) but also shed light on the lack of discussion around women’s issues, in particular around matters of rape and sexual violence. As such, in the spirit of discourse and dialogue, we want to dig deeper into various theories on rape, statistics about rape in Indonesia, and how it impacts both men and women in different but equally damaging ways, such as via toxic masculinity and via paranoia and mistrust, respectively. Yuyun’s case highlights the need to engage with these tough issues and figure out how as a nation and as a society we can prevent future cases as gruesome and tragic as this from ever happening again in our homeland. #NyalaUntukYuyun
